St. Zélie Martin
Patron Saint of the ADHD catholic mom
St. Zélie Martin has been my spiritual sister for a long time, so it was a no brainier to choose her as patron saint of @the.adhd.catholic.mom. Her holiness was lived in the exact place so many of us Moms find ourselves today: in a tired body, an overwhelmed mind, and a home full of real needs.
She parented a child who struggled developmentally and emotionally (Léonie Martin), she carried chronic illness and suffering in her own body for years, and she still showed up day after day in love, responsibility, and trust in God.
Zélie’s sanctity was not built on endless energy or perfect routines, but on faithfulness in the midst of limitation, rooted in a deep life of prayer.
She never knew in her lifetime that she would be a canonized saint, nor that her little Thérèse would become a Doctor of the Church, just as we don't know yet what God's plans are for us and our families. St. Zélie reminds us that when the challenges and sufferings of motherhood press in on us from all sides, it is not a sign that we are failing as mothers. Rather, God may be asking great — though perhaps hidden — things of us, and we too can become saints in the midst of our ordinary, messy lives. Her life quietly testifies that motherhood marked by heavy mental load, personal health struggles, and neurodivergent children is not a spiritual obstacle, but a place where saints are made.
St. Zélie, pray for us!
Pax, Mama 🤍
